About Atul Nanda, M.D.
I was born and brought up in New Delhi, India. Since my high school days I was fascinated with human biology, a career in medicine thus became the logical choice for me. My hard work, commitment and sincerity paid off when I ranked among the top 1% aspiring medical students in India and was admitted to my medical school. During my clinical clerkship I was impressed by how surgery makes an immediate impact on patient outcomes. There was no looking back and I went on to pursue surgical residency from one of the top programs in the University of Delhi. After graduating, I worked as an Assistant Professor at my alma mater. My pursuit for further knowledge prompted me to come to the United States. I did my surgery internship at University of Illinois Metropolitan Group of Hospitals and later joined the prestigious Mayo Clinic to complete my General Surgery residency. There I had the opportunity to work with one of the best brains and learn the latest in surgery. My interest in hepatobiliary surgery made me pursue a fellowship in abdominal transplant surgery from the University of Illinois, Chicago.
I strongly believe in Patient Centered and Patient driven care. I strive towards providing care that is respectful of, and responsive to, individual patient preferences, needs and values, and ensuring that patient values guide all clinical decisions.
